How to Play March Madness Pools

March Madness Rules Predict who wins each of the 63 games You receive the number of points each round is worth The default value is 1 point for round 1, 2 points for round 2, 4 points for round 3 (Sweet Sixteen), 8 points for round 4 (Elite Eight), 16 points for round 5 and 32 points for round 6 (Championship Game) Tie Breaker Predict the score of the Championship Game First tiebreaker is the closest to the winning score If still tied, the next tiebreaker is closest to the losing score If still tied, the final tiebreaker is the closest to the combined score of the two teams Optional Rules (Selected by your pool commissioner) Value per Round The default value per round is 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 The value per round can be set to anything between 0 and 99 Upset Bonuses Award extra points for picking upsets (a lower seed beating a higher seed...i.e., a 12 seed beats a 5 seed) Two different ways to award bonuses: by round or by seed difference Default is upset bonuses are not used Note - you receive the upset points based on the actual game results - even if you did not accurately predict which team would lose in the game. Example 1 - for round 2, you pick a 5 seed to beat a 4 seed, but the 13 seed beat the 4 seed in round 1. The 5 seed beats the 13 seed - you do NOT get the bonus point(s). The real game was not an upset, even though you predicted an upset in your bracket. Example 2 - for round 2, you pick a 13 seed to beat a 5 seed, but the 12 seed beat the 5 seed in round 1. The 13 seed beats the 12 seed - you DO get the bonus point(s). The game was an upset and even though you had predicted 13 beating 5, you accurately predicted 13 would win an upset in round 2, so you do get the point(s). If you are using the Seed Difference method, you would only get the points assigned for a one point seed difference, not an 8 point seed difference - it's always based on the actual results. Example 3 - in the Final Four, you predict a 1 seed to beat another 1 seed. You do NOT get any upset bonus points since both teams were the same seed, regardless of their rankings in any other poll. Cinderella Bonus Pick one team, 5th seed or lower (5th through 16 seed) Earn bonus points everytime this team wins Default is Cinderella bonus is not used Suggested bonuses are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for rounds 1-6 Note - you receive the Cinderella bonuses when the Cinderella team wins, regardless of whether you predicted them to win in your pool bracket Most points wins! Total score = points won each round + any upset or Cinderella bonuses (if used in your pool) Start a March Madness Pool Now!
